心と体の性が一致しない「性同一性障害」の治療法のガイドラインが改められます。「日本精神神経学会」が決めたもので、２０歳からとなっていたホルモン療法や、一部の手術を受けられる年齢を、１８歳に引き下げています。

体と心の性の不一致に苦しむ「性同一性障害」について、日本精神神経学会は２日までに、必要に応じて早期に性転換手術を受けられるよう治療ガイドラインを改正することを決めた。今春をめどに、新ガイドラインをまとめる方針。
性同一性障害は従来、ほとんど表に出なかったが、同学会が１９９７年７月にガイドラインを策定し、治療を要する疾病と正式に認知された。その後、医療機関で診断を受けた人は１０００人を超えた。
ガイドラインは治療を精神療法、ホルモン療法、手術療法の３段階とし、各段階の治療を十分行った上で次の段階に進むとしている。しかし、手術の中でも乳房切除は患者にとって切実な問題で、第２段階を終えるまで待つことによる生活上の支障も大きいことが分かってきた。
また、肝障害などでホルモン療法が困難な患者もいるため、必要な場合には第２段階を飛ばして手術を受けられるなど、柔軟な対応が可能となるようガイドラインを改正する。また、社会に適応しやすくするため、ホルモン療法の開始時期を２０歳以上から１８歳以上に引き下げる。
