As a post-operative transgender traveller, can I be issued with a passport using my new identity?
The United Kingdom Passport Service is responsible for issuing passports in the UK. For further information on obtaining a passport visit their website http://www.passport.gov.uk/ or call their national advice line on 0870 521 0410. Overseas you can renew your passport at most British Consulates, but please check with the Consulate beforehand to confirm that they do provide this service. If your passport has been lost or stolen, report the loss to the police and obtain a certificate of loss. Our staff will need to make some identity checks before issuing the new passport.
In most cases it is possible to be issued with a passport using your new identity, but whatever the reason for changing your name from that on your birth certificate, you will need to produce some form of documentary evidence detailing the date and circumstances of that change.

「『性同一性障害』を考える」

「性同一性障害」は、身体と心の「性」が不一致となる、医学上認められた障害です。
日本では、一昨年秋に、初めて埼玉医科大学で性別最適合手術が行われましたが、潜在的には、１万人以上の患者がいるといわれています。今年になって、人気ドラマの題材になるなど、「性同一性障害」への関心が急速に高まっていますが、当事者の抱える悩みは深刻です。
番組では２回にわたって、「医療」と「社会制度」の２点に絞り、「性同一性障害」に苦しむ人たちをどのように理解し、支えていったらいいのか、社会のあり方を考えていきます。
７月１５日（月） 第１回 医療面の課題
平成10年10月、埼玉医科大学で、日本初の性別再適合手術が行われ、性同一性障害に苦しむ人たちに、大きな期待を与えました。
手術は、カウンセリングやホルモン治療を数年にわたって受け、倫理委員会で認定された上で行われます。また、日本精神神経学会が策定した、「ガイドライン」に則ったものでもあります。しかし、手術を行う医療機関はその後も少なく、保険適用も無いことから、安くて早い、海外での手術に踏み切る当事者も多いといいます。
シリーズ第１回は、性同一性障害とはどのような障害なのか、論点を整理するとともに、医療面の課題を考えます。
◇体と心の性が不一致となる性同一性障害。当事者が抱える悩みは深刻であり、手術代の自費負担や施設の不足など医療面の問題、戸籍にかかわる結婚や就職などの法的な課題も残されたままだ。性同一性障害に悩む人たちをどのように理解し支えていったらいいのか。医療と社会制度の二点に絞って社会の在り方を考える。二回シリーズの一回目は、性同一性障害とはどのような障害なのかを整理するとともに、医療面の課題について考える。
７月１６日（火） 第２回 制度上の課題
性同一性障害の人たちの大きな悩みは、生活上のさまざまな場面で求められる、性別の提示の問題です。
現在、日本では、手術によって性を転換しても、新たな性で戸籍を作ることは認められていません。このため、戸籍、住民票、保険証などが手術前の性となり、「現在の自分」とは、異なる性を提示することになります。それにより、就職、医療だけでなく、アパートを借りるなどの日常生活でも、さまざまな不便と苦しみを強いられているのです。
シリーズ２回目は、性同一性障害の人が直面する、社会的な問題について考えます。
◇性同一性障害に悩む人たちをどのように理解し支えていったらいいのかについて考えるシリーズ。性同一性障害の人たちの大きな悩みは、生活上のさまざまな場面で性別の提示を求められることである。日本では現在、手術によって性を転換しても新たな性で戸籍を作ることが認められていない。そのため性転換手術を行っても、就職のほか、アパートを借りるなどの日常生活でさまざまな不便や苦しみを強いられる。性同一性障害の人が直面する社会的な問題について考える。
